Tyler Brehm of Pottstown, PA is a rookie to sprint cars in 2019 running mostly with the wings on in the 358 division at the Williams Grove Speedway. Brehm and his Recchione Racing team have made a handful of starts at the Big Diamond Speedway and Grandview Speedway along with a handful of starts with the URC winged series as well.
Despite being 25 years of age, Brehm has 20 years of experience in racing starting off in quarter midgets at Honeybrook Speedway and working his way from asphalt to dirt racing. The next step for Brehm was then the 600cc micro sprints which have been a great feeder system for a number of our USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series drivers. Brehm has non wing experience from his history with micro sprints, and also has dabbled in Midget racing when the ARDC Midgets were a local fixture on many local speedways.
Brehm and the Recchione Team made the switch to sprint cars in 2019 after successful seasons in 600cc micro sprint competition. Brehm explained that “It just made sense for this team.” “We’re not much of a traveling team and you have to travel a lot with the micro sprints running three times or more a week.” Brehm mentioned that owning a sprint car is something that his car owner Steve Recchione has always wanted to do.
When asked about their desire to run wingless Brehm stated that “It was on Steve (Recchione) he loves the non-wing stuff, and I like it.” Brehm stated that \ he feels that there is good winged racing but, “I think it (wingless racing) puts the driver back into the seat” and that the decision was something that they’ve always wanted to do.
I asked Tyler about what it would mean to win a USAC East Coast Seires event and Brehm had the following to say “I mean there’s a lot of good guys, You have Steven (Drevicki), Timmy (Buckwalter), Chandler Leiby, there’s good guys in this series.” Brehm said that with all the drivers the series has “Just to say you won a USAC race it would be pretty important, its really tough.” Even though Brehm and the Recchione Racing team only ran three races this season with the USAC East Coast Series, Brehm said they felt pretty good for their first time out and he knows there’s some more they can do to be better. Even with their limited starts Brehm was fast when they ran wingless
Hopefully the Recchione Racing team and driver Tyler Brehm have a great close to their 2019 season and we see more of the team in 2020 at our events across the East Coast.
