MIKE THOMPSON GEARING UP FOR BUSY 2019 SEASON IN MICRO SPRINTS AND USAC-EC SPRINT CARS
Holland, PA- February 10, 2019 –Mike Thompson is gearing up for his third full season behind the wheel of a 600cc Micro Sprint and will also make his debut in a Rapid Tire USAC-EC wingless 360 Sprint Car in 2019. Mike was the 2017 Linda's Speedway 600 Rookie of the Year at just 13 years of age. In 2018 he competed in over 50 events in the 600 Micro Sprint at 12 different tracks in 4 different states. He won both the 2018 Linda's Speedway Most Improved Driver Award and Sportsmanship Award. He had top 10 points finishes in 4 separate Series in 2018. Mike picked up 2 Feature wins in 2018- one winged and one wingless and also won 15 qualifying events.
Mike will open the 2019 600 Micro season at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL for a 3 race series with the Florida Mini Sprints beginning on Thursday February 14th in the family owned Thompson Motorsports #11. The team has put together a schedule of over 60 races for the 2019 season. The Northeast season will begin for the team at Path Valley Speedway's opener on March 23rd. Most Friday nights will find the Thompsons at Linda's Speedway while Saturday nights they will compete at several different tracks including Greenwood Valley, Clyde Martin, and Path Valley. The #11 will also compete at Kutztown's Action Track, Trail-way Speedway, and Spirit Auto Center Speedway in New Jersey. Thompson Motorsports also plans to travel to the Mid-west for several high profile, big money events in 2019.
Mike will also compete in a wingless 360 Sprint Car for New Jersey car owner Tim Hogue in the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series. Mike will be the 3rd generation of Thompson to compete in a Sprint Car as his dad Len is a former winner in 410 Sprint competition and his grandfather Bruce is a former winner in a 360 Sprint Car with URC. Mike's debut in the Hogue #39 car will occur at Delaware International Speedway on April 17th. Hogue and Thompson will plan to run several other shows together in the series with expected visits to Grandview Speedway and Big Diamond Speedway, among others. The Hogue #39 has competed regularly in the USAC Eastern Storm Series with a 410 engine under the hood with drivers such as USAC Triple Crown Champion Jerry Coons Jr. The team's wingless Sprint Car experience coupled with Mike's success in a wingless 600 Micro Sprint give them confidence that they can run up front right out of the box.
Sponsorship for the Hogue #39 comes from VP Racing Fuels and Boulevard Truck Lease and they will utilize Maxim Chassis and Kriner's Racing Engines.
