Swedesboro, NJ. November 4th, 2021. Nick Fillman, USAC ECSC
Collegeville, PA driver Alex Bright, along with car owner Robert Hummer of Hummer Motorsports will be officially crowned champions in the Driver, and Car Owner portion of the 2021, Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series, Presented by Capitol Renegade on Friday night at the Bridgeport Speedway.
Bright, the veteran open wheel driver scoring many wins in midget action under the ARDC and USAC Eastern Midget banners, will secure his first ever championship at the controls of a sprint car, coming off one of the most dominant season long performances in motorsports. Long time business owner, and former modified owner Robert Hummer Jr, will also add his name to the record books as a car owners champion for the 2021 season, the first championship for the Hummer Motorsports team since bursting onto the micro sprint and sprint car scene only a few years ago.
By simply starting the feature event at the Orange County Fair Speedway on October 23rd, Bright secured the championship over rookie driver Briggs Danner with over a 140 point lead. The lead is so extensive, that Bright could all together skip the event on November 5th at the Bridgeport Speedway, and still have a more than 70 point lead over Danner.
The year for Bright and Hummer was historic as to date, they have won a record eleven times through twenty-two completed events. Add to that, eight top three runs, one top five, and the worst finishing position being fourteenth at Action Track USA resulting with a DNF. The only DNF for the team the entire season. Bright had to work all season long for victories as well, as the talented driver is also currently leading our Vahlco Wheel Passing Master standings as well, which is a season long tabulation of positions passed in feature events from each drivers start to finish.
From season start, to season finish, even when the temperatures outside began to cool, the Hummer Motorsports team remained red hot. Closest points competitor Briggs Danner and the Gallagher Racing Team struggled throughout the tail end of the season, allowing Bright to pull away in the points standings in recent weeks with their own continued consistency.
While one race remains on the series trail, Friday night at the Bridgeport Speedway, and is now the highest paying event of the season with a $3,000 pay day heading to the winner, Bright and the Hummer Motorsports team already have their eyes focused on 2022. While 2022 plans are not fully complete yet, Bright and team will head to Ocala, Florida in February to compete in the USAC National Sprint Car Series annual “Winter Dirt Games.” Whether or not the team stays full time with the USAC National Series is yet to be decided, but look for Bright and Hummer to have an ambitious schedule in 2022.
The final night of action for the Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series, Presented by Capitol Renegade is this Friday, November 5th. Pit gates will open at 4pm, with Grandstand gates at 5pm, Hot laps at 6pm, and racing to follow.
Briggs Danner, Damon Paul, Nash Ely, Christopher Allen, and many others, including a few surprises, will look to try and prevent the Champion Alex Bright from grabbing his twelfth win of the season and take home the $3,000 Finale.
