Bruno Bottom Feeds to A Thrilling Port Royal Win
It was a rainy, dreary morning in Port Royal Pa. However the track crew and officials stuck it out and trusted the forecast was true. Port Royal was rewarded with some amazing sprint car action, and possibly the USAC IMT East Coast Wingless Sprints presented by Baer Den Farms race of the season!
20 entries for competition with heat wins being awarded to Briggs Danner and Chris Allen.
Christian Bruno from Deptford Nj enjoys Port Royal, now he loves Port Royal. Bruno started in 11th and scored a shocking victory! It was his 2nd Port Royal victory of his career.
Dale Schweikart in his 305 sprint drew the pole and was flanked by Ed Aikin and Briggs Danner breathing down his neck at the start.
At the drop of the green the gloves were off, Schweikart slid hard breaking the momentum of Aikin leaving a wide open door for Danner to lead lap 1.
As the race roared on Kenny Miller started a charge taking the reigning champ of Steven Drevicki with him, lap 10 the caution was thrown for a slowing Tony Jackson.
15 to go and the race started to fall into the hands of Kenny Miller, the 23m worked over Danner and drew even several times, but all eyes started to watch the potent Bentley Truck Service Inc. 17B.
Bruno started to wrap the bottom of the Speed Palace keeping a smooth and steady pace reeling in the top 3. With 7 to go it was an all-out war for the win.
3 to go the leaders caught traffic and it was Danner and Bruno dualing, Bruno used the lapped car as a pick and ran away to hide. Danner attempted the hay-maker on the last lap but was denied.
Bruno took the popular victory, over Danner, Kenny Miller III, Drevicki and Ed Aikin.
Next week the series looks to the first state of Delaware. Showcasing a 25 lap war at the Delaware International Raceway.
